Gay men are from Mars?
From Washington Blade
The story on the Snickers Super Bowl ad has definitely morphed since post this morning. There are two separate but related controversies. One is over the ad itself that was aired during the Super Bowl. The second and now greater controversy is over the posting on the Snickers website of three alternate endings to the commercial and the reactions of NFL players as they viewed the ad. This publication will be reporting on the controversies this week. After getting slammed by HRC, GLAAD, and Judy Shepard, Mars, Inc., the maker of Snickers, pulled all the ads and related videos off the website. Fortunately, the alternative endings can still be viewed here on the Commercial Closet's website. The videos of the players' reactions can be found here and here on YouTube.Instead of pulling out their chest hair, two of the alternative endings had the kissers drinking motor oil and beating each other up with wrenches to reclaim their manliness. Our gay advocacy groups were not amused.Joe Solmonese, HRC 's president, stated in a press release: "If they have any questions about why the ad isn’t funny, we can help put them in touch with any number of GLBT Americans who have suffered hate crimes.”
