Happy Chinese New Year!
Gung Hay Fat Choy (Cantonese)
Gong Xi Fa Cai (Mandarin)

This year, 2008, is the Year of the Rat in the Chinese lunar calendar, and its New Year we celebrate today. According to legend, Buddha sent for all the animals of the earth to bid them farewell as he departed from the earth, but unfortunately only 12 heeded his call. The 12 came in this order: rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. For his alacrity, Buddha rewarded the rat by naming him first among the 12.
